I like the cmemont that children are unrelenting experts at habit. With my very young children, I’m learning how much they value routine (particularly the toddler). Of course, I don’t want to teach him to be so married to his routine that he’s not flexible, but he does feel calm and secure when he knows what to expect.I think this concept of starting as you mean to go on tripped me up when he was a newborn, though, because it didn’t account for his developmental stage. I was so worried about not creating bad sleep habits that I didn’t realize he would naturally develop aptitude for learning good ones, but at a slightly older age.So with my daughter this time around, I’m not so stressed out about her sleeping in a glider or having to be walked around to fall asleep. I know where I want to go with her, and I’m gently encouraging those habits. I know the older she gets the easier it will be.So I agree with a few reservations.
